I’m actually debating on getting a 2009 forester for 8k at a used dealership and it’s a manual and looks like it’s a non turbo also but I also see a 2003 forester but I don’t know which one has more cargo room for fitting a single bed mattress so I can camp in it. The downside to the 2003 model is that it’s not a manual and I like the look of the olde model but it has higher mileage so I don’t know which one to go for cause I like the look of the older one cause of the boxiness and station wagon look but if the suv one is just a bit longer than I’ll go with the suv and besides it is manual which I love… their more fun than an automatic 🥱🥱🥱 with a manual it’s just plain fun 😁😁😁😎😎😎 Also also I have a 50 lb husky that will be travelling with me so I assume the suv will be the one I’m sure. I’m sad cause I wish they kept the boxy look of the older ones.

This model does not have an automatic lift gate. So the key only unlocks it 👍

Did you get the xt? I have one. Been a great car for the past years. Mine has the satnav but the 09 does not have bluetooth. I have driven the non turbo 09 and I defiantly notice a difference when I want a quick launch from a stop or a quick acceleration on the freeway.

@@jondelrun yes, i did get the xt. It is currently in the shop for repairs after it broke down on the highway, 90 miles from the nearest shop that would take it for repairs. The total cost ( incuding 105,000 mile maintenance like timing belts and water pump) will be $7,200. It is hard to put in $7,200 for repairs after only driven less than 1,000 miles and owned the car for 6 months. I am pretty disappointed. Plus, any budget assigned to things like skid plates is gone. Which means i can't take the subaru to all of the places that i wanted when i bought the Subaru. Quite frustrating. I hope you have better luck

@@michaelreed649 I am sorry to hear that and sorry for the late reply. What did you end up doing with the repair? I have had mine for about 3 years now. Besides tires and normal maintenance, I have had zero problems with 09 xt. I made sure before I bought it that dealership replaced the chain and water pump. The 09 is also the last year on the Forester before they started using the CVTs. I am not a fan of CVTs. I am getting new brakes and rotors in October. At that time I am going to have the shop inspect the front. If all goes well, next year i plan on doing a 2 inch proper lift ( I think 2 inch available). Some people just do a body and that is fine. You still get a little more ground clearance. I am not sure where I heard this but if you put on King Springs, you can get about an inch of clearance while keeping everything stock. The springs are just really stiff. I am weighing my options but if I what clearance and do and light overlanding, I will just get the lift kit. Have you thought of the skids plates? There are many skids plates out there and I like some from for the car tech shows and youtube I watch. Many have logo cut outs and I am not sure I like the idea of having a hole in armour. Do you have any suggestions on armour? It all costs and I will have to piece it over time.

​@@jondelrun, I got the 2009 XT. It has been a disaster. The Dealership (Gilman Subaru) lured me to the location with an offer of $8,999. I confirmed the price and set an appointment, but by the time I drove the hour to get to the dealership, the price had increased by $1,000. It was still a reasonable price for a vehicle with less than 100,000 miles. So I bought it. They charged an additional "required $1,000 for a complete vehicle inspection. Additionally, Gillman sold me a maintenance package that I only bought because I knew I would need to replace the water pump and belts at 104,000 miles. It was an additional $3,400, but the salesman said all maintenance for the next three years would be covered. So, for those that are keeping track, I was lured into the dealership with the promised price of $9,000 and left with the price of $14,400 Plus Tax. Then disaster struck. Less than 5 months later and around 600 miles on the car, I was driving back from a camping trip on the beach, and the car exploded into smoke. There was no place that took care of Subarus anywhere closer than the dealership, so I had it towed there. It cost 3,000 to find out that the turbo had blown, then $3,500 more to get it fixed, but while they had it taken apart, they suggested I get my water pump and belts replaced. I agreed since they had sold me the maintenance package that would pay for it. Unfortunately, they Lied. Gilman Subaru had sold me a maintenance package that covered 3 oil changes, window repair, a key replacement, and NOTHING ELSE for $3,500. The salesperson lied about the whole thing. It was on a Friday at 8 PM, and I am sure he wanted to either make quota or bonus and ripped us off (he still works at Gillman Southwest Subaru). Keep in mind that this had been 5 weeks for the "repair" at this point. Also, remember that we were forced to buy a $1,000 inspection for potential issues and were given a clean bill of health for the car. They claimed the car was ready for pickup, and so far, it had cost me $6,700. Now, remember that when I started this adventure into this Subaru, the promised price was just under $9,000. We are at $21,100 plus tax. But Wait, We are not done. They had me drive an hour out to them to get the car, and as I drove away, smoke was billowing out the back again. I turned around and went back. They sent me out with a ruined catalytic converter. The catalytic converter was ruined from the oil from the blown turbo. So, they fixed the Catalatic converter (for a reasonable price) and drove the car out to me. It has been over 2 months. The car arrived, and I signed for it before noticing the front fender was not on correctly. After further inspection, there was minor impact damage to the bumper, and the windshield was cracked. It was an unrepairable crack. Really? A week later, they repaired the windshield and fixed the broken clips for the fender. It took over 2.5 months and over $7,000 for this repair on a car that was sold to me less than 600 miles before at an inflated price with blatant lies for a maintenance package. Total cost was about the equivalent of a new (bare bones) Subaru. Now, All of my plans for upgrades (like skid plates, better struts, a possible "1.5 lift kit, and black-out of the grill) are all out the window. I can't afford to even take the car off-road out of fear something else will go wrong. That is the whole reason to buy the Subaru. My wife has been tolerant and kind, but she has good reason to hate this car. My experience has soured me to the Subaru brand, and I will never buy from Subaru or Gilman again. I hope and pray your experience is better than mine. Michael
